Stephanos Mar Theodosius Birth Centenary Projects

In commemoration of the birth centenary of H.G. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius of blessed memory, the Diocese of Calcutta has initiated a series of mission-focused projects aimed at honoring his extraordinary legacy of service. These centenary projects are being led by H.G. Alexios Mar Eusebius Metropolitan, who continues to carry forward the vision and work of this great missionary leader.

With deep gratitude and a strong sense of purpose, the Diocese has chosen to revitalize and expand three of Thirumeni’s most cherished projects, continuing the work he started and sacrificed for.

1. Abhaya Niketan, Makodiya

Abhaya Niketan is a mission project aimed at providing healthcare, education, and livelihood support for villagers across 100 rural communities. Originally founded by H.G. Mar Theodosius as a hub for integrated rural development, the Centre is now being expanded to respond to current needs. As part of the centenary initiative, plans include:

  • Upgrading the existing mission school to offer better infrastructure and learning opportunities for children.
  • Launching self-help projects for women, encouraging empowerment through income-generating activities.
  • Expanding the healthcare services at Abhaya Niketan Clinic to include palliative care, and introducing ambulance services to serve remote villages with limited access to medical support. This vital expansion of Clinic is made possible with the major sponsorship of St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Dubai, and construction work is currently in progress.

2. Santhome Printing Press, Bhilai

Santhome Printing Press, established during the early days of the mission, has served as a communication and publishing tool for the Church. As part of the centenary revival plan, the Diocese aims to transform it into a training and skill development center for youth from underprivileged backgrounds. The press will be upgraded with modern technology to:

  • Launch a certificate program in digital printing technology, offering hands-on training to young people.
  • Create employment opportunities by connecting trained individuals with jobs in the printing and media industry.
  • This renewed vision ensures that the Press not only continues its publishing mission but also becomes a platform for youth empowerment and technical education.

3. Mar Theodosius Memorial Mission Centre – Pathamuttom

This centre, named in loving memory of H.G. Mar Theodosius, focuses on the empowerment of women and children through sustainable skill development. As part of the centenary projects, the centre is being strengthened with several new initiatives:

  • A stitching unit that provides skill training and income opportunities for local women.
  • A career guidance centre and language lab aimed at helping young people improve their communication skills and prepare for future careers.
  • Formation of self-help groups (SHGs) for both women and children, fostering community development and mutual support.

Carrying Forward a Legacy of Love and Mission

These projects are not just structures or programs—they are living testaments to the life, vision, and sacrifice of H.G. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius. Each initiative reflects his unwavering commitment to serving the last, the least, and the lost, through a Christ-centered mission grounded in love, humility, and action.

Under the leadership of H.G. Alexios Mar Eusebius Metropolitan, the Diocese of Calcutta is committed to seeing these projects grow and flourish, impacting lives for generations to come. As Thirumeni once walked alongside the poor and lived among the mission fields of North India, so too does the Church now walk in his footsteps—honoring his memory not just in celebration, but through service, empowerment, and unwavering faith.

Join the Birth Centenary Mission

The Church welcomes the support and partnership of parishes, organizations, and well-wishers to make these projects sustainable and far-reaching. Through prayers, donations, and active involvement, the faithful can take part in a centenary celebration that moves beyond events and into action—transforming lives in the spirit of a man who gave his all for the glory of God and the good of His people.

Let the legacy of H.G. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius continue to inspire the Church to be a living mission—rooted in love, driven by compassion, and committed to serving the world.
