Stephanos Mar Theodosius Memorial Mission Centre, Pathamuttom
The Stephanos Mar Theodosius Memorial Mission Centre (SMTMMC) Pathamuttom, is run by the St. Thomas Mission Bhilai in the birthplace of L. L. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius of blessed memory. SMTMMC stands as a living memorial, translating the values and vision of His Grace into meaningful, ground-level action for the benefit of society. Since its inception, SMTMMC has been a vibrant hub for spiritual enrichment, social empowerment, and educational support, impacting lives through a wide range of ongoing and well-organized programmes.
Ongoing Projects
Cairos Counselling Centre
Cairos Counselling Centre provides counseling session to students facing academic and personal challenges, but the scope of services has gradually expanded.
SMT Self-Employment Scheme
This initiative has been instrumental in training and equipping underprivileged women with practical, income-generating skills most notably in tailoring and food preparation. As part of this scheme, sewing machines were distributed to women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them a means to earn a livelihood with dignity.
ABHAYA Self-Help Group
The trained women were organized into a Self-Help Group (SHG) called “Abhaya”, which functions actively in tailoring and catering. SMTMMC has provided the group with essential infrastructure and equipment to carry out their work efficiently. The tailoring unit is located on the second floor of the building, while the catering unit functions from the spacious kitchens on the ground floor and surrounding areas. The products are marketed to the public, and the profits are shared among the members.
Educational Aid
SMTMMC extends support to needy students pursuing higher education, understanding that education remains the most powerful tool for transformation.
Monthly Prayer Meetings
The cornerstone of SMTMMC’s spiritual life is the Monthly Prayer Meeting, which has been conducted consistently since the very beginning. This gathering brings together Orthodox Christian families from nearby areas of Pathamuttom for an evening of prayer, meditation, and fellowship.
These meetings begin with the Evening Prayer, followed by the singing of traditional hymns, reading of selected Bible passages, and a spiritually uplifting Gospel message. The sessions conclude with intercessory prayers, where the needs of individuals, families, the church, and the community are brought before God with sincerity and faith.
Koinonia Bible Study Programme
The Koinonia Bible Study Programme draws many individuals from the surrounding areas, creating a platform for deep, participatory engagement with the Word of God. What sets this Bible study apart is its collaborative and inclusive format. The Bible passage or topic for discussion is announced ahead of time, allowing participants to study and prepare in advance. Clergy from nearby parishes moderate the sessions, ensuring that the discussions remain focused, enriching, and biblically sound.
Continuing The Legacy
All the programmes at SMTMMC are anchored in the life and mission of H.G. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius, who believed in faith in action, education as empowerment, and service as worship. The Centre is not merely a memorial, but a living mission, reaching out to the community through spiritual care, social work, and educational support.
