Educational Mission
It is with this deep sense of responsibility and commitment that the Diocese of Calcutta and St. Thomas Mission undertook its Educational Mission in North India, a movement aimed at uplifting the marginalized and bringing every child into the mainstream of quality education.
The Vision: Education for All, Rooted in Values
The Educational Mission was conceived to counter the acute educational backwardness seen in the remote villages and interior regions of North India. In many of these areas, children are denied access to even basic schooling due to poverty, lack of infrastructure, and neglect. Understanding this grim reality, the mission took a proactive step to reach the unreached by establishing schools that do more than just teach—they nurture, guide, and empower.
Our goal is not only to spread literacy but to provide value-based, holistic education that helps children develop intellectually, emotionally, morally, and spiritually. We believe that quality education should be accessible to all—irrespective of caste, creed, gender, or financial background.
From Vision to Reality: Building Schools in the Heart of India
Over the years, this vision has taken shape through a network of schools and colleges established across various states in North India, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions. These educational institutions have become centers of light in regions long shrouded in educational darkness.
We have always strived to ensure that our schools remain free from commercialization, and true to our mission of service. No child is ever denied admission due to financial constraints, and no donations or capitation fees are taken during admissions or staff appointments. Education is treated not as a business, but as a sacred calling.
Expanding the Educational Footprint
It is a matter of immense gratitude and pride that today, under the umbrella of St. Thomas Mission and the Diocese of Calcutta, our educational efforts span across several states, serving thousands of students.
Our institutions include:
- 15 Higher Secondary Schools
- 9 High School
- 7 Pre- Primary Schools
Together, these schools serve as strongholds of value-based education and discipline, shaping the lives of young learners across regions. Across all institutions under St. Thomas Mission and Diocese of Calcutta, we currently serve more than 25,500 students, guided and nurtured by a dedicated team of more than 2500 staff members, including teachers, administrative personnel, and support staff.
Higher Education: Bridging the Gap to Opportunity
In addition to our schools, our mission has made remarkable progress in the field of higher education, establishing institutions that offer students an opportunity to pursue technical and academic excellence beyond school.
Our prominent higher education institutions include:
- Christian College of Engineering & Technology (CCET), Bhilai
- St. Thomas College, Bhilai
- MGM College, Dimapur
These institutions have become trusted names in higher education, producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible and spiritually grounded. With a commitment to discipline, character formation, and professional growth, our colleges prepare students to face the challenges of a fast-changing world.
Inclusive Policies: No Capitation, No Discrimination
What sets our mission apart is our inclusive and ethical approach to education. True to our commitment, we do not charge any donation or capitation fees for student admissions or staff appointments. Admissions are based on merit and need, ensuring that no deserving child is left behind.
We take pride in maintaining transparency, fairness, and accountability in our policies. Our schools and colleges are open to children of all religions and communities, fostering an environment of mutual respect, tolerance, and shared learning.
